B.J. Denker

B.J. Denker

>> Arizona quarterback B.J. Denker nas only two interceptions in his last 244 attempts dating to last season. He attempted 80 consecutive passes without a pick heading into the Washington game. After having two against the Huskies, including his last attempt in the fourth quarter, Denker has thrown 74 straight passes without an interception in the last two games against USC and Utah.

>> Encouraging news for Denker: Colorado is next-to-last in the Pac-12 in pass defense, allowing 268.5 passing yards per game. Those numbers got drastically better last week against Charleston Southern, an FCS school that attempted only 14 passes and totaled just 48 yards through the air.

>> Arizona running back Ka’Deem Carey told the Denver Post this week that his uncle, former UA running back and Denver Broncos receiver Vance Johnson, flew to Las Vegas to watch him play UNLV earlier this season. Johnson should also be in attendance today when the UA plays Colorado at Folsom Field in Boulder.

Carey was too young to remember Johnson winning three Super Bowls with the Broncos in the 1980s, but he has watched Johnson on film.

“He was a hustler,” Carey told the Denver Post. “You knew he’d get in the end zone.”

When Johnson met with Carey in Las Vegas he used the time to teach Carey some of what he knows of the position.

“He showed me some pointers,” Carey told the Post. “He showed me some things that benefited me later in my career at a young age. Just being patient when I’m hitting the holes, to always be aggressive.”
