The list of top Arizona Wildcats athletes in 2013 was published at this site on Christmas. It is time for you to select in bracket form which athletes were the most significant of 2013 leading up to the new year.

Please answer the poll that corresponds with each entry. The polling will take place each day with the most selected advancing to the next round. No. 15 Mark Lyons (men’s basketball) topped No. 18 Hattie Wilson (softball) and No. 16 Jazmin Ponce (soccer) got past No. 17 Kevin Newman (baseball). Today’s polls include four matchups of the Sweet 16. The other four will be published tomorrow.

No. 16 Jazmin Ponce, a senior, was an All-Pac-12 selection for the second consecutive season. Ponce recorded a total of 92 shot attempts, five assists, five game-winning goals and 10 goals. Ponce led the Pac-12 in shots and game-winning goals for three weeks in a row. Top-seed Ka’Deem Carey set numerous record for Arizona, most notably the career rushing and rushing touchdown marks. He is a consensus All-American for the second consecutive season. He is also Arizona’s first Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year.

Solomon Hill finished as Arizona's productivity leader for the season

No. 9 Solomon Hill earned All-Pac-12 honors in consecutive seasons and finished his career ranked 20th on Arizona’s scoring list with 1,430 points. He ranks in the top 10 in the following categories: Games played (T1st/139), games started (T3rd/129), minutes played (6th/4,030) and rebounds (10th/773). No. 8 Aubree Cristello was chosen first-team All-Pac-12 all-around for the fourth consecutive time in her career. She is the only Arizona athlete to receive this honor for every year of her career.

No. 13 Johnny Field was a repeat All-Pac-12 selection. He ranked first in the Pac-12 in runs scored (58) and triples (seven) and ranked third in hits (77), total bases (117) and stolen bases (16). No. 4 Kevin Cordes, the NCAA Swimmer of the Year, became the first 200 breaststroker to ever swim a sub-1:50 as he won the NCAA title in 1:48:68. Cordes, who also broke the American record in the 100 breaststroke,became just the fourth Arizona men’s swimmer to win more than three individual national titles.

Samantha Pickens

No. 12 Brandon Dixon won the Pac-12 batting title (.369) in his first season as a full-time starter. He also led all Pac-12 players with 30 stolen bases. He ranked second in slugging percentage (.561), runs batted in (51) and runs scored (57), and third in on-base percentage (.443) and triples (five). No. 5 Samantha Pickens won the national championship in the 1m dive. She is the first Arizona female to win a national title in diving. She was also named Pac-12 Diver of the Year. She is also an All-American in the 1m dive.
