The Arizona Wildcats dropped from No. 2 to No. 4 in this week’s Associated Press Top 25 poll after their 69-66 double-overtime loss at ASU on Friday night.
Arizona (23-2 overall) is in the top 5 for the 14th consecutive week. The 2002-03 team that featured Jason Gardner and Luke Walton was ranked in the Top 5 all season, a total of 19 weeks.
With two losses in their last four games, the cold-shooting Wildcats are getting criticism from national media pundits, including CBS-TV’s Seth Davis, who also writes for SportsIllustrated.com. Tweets are published below.
In Tweets yesterday, Davis implied that Arizona is not as good as their seed or rank (although he has the Wildcats No. 4). Davis also suggested that the Wildcats do not have a chance for the Final 4, replying “Negative” to a Tweet asking about Arizona’s ability to get that far.
Two reminders: Davis is the one who picked Belmont over Arizona in the NCAA tournament last year. And the Wildcats’ two losses have come in the last seconds on the road against two likely NCAA tournament teams — Cal and ASU — without starting forward Brandon Ashley playing the bulk of the minutes.
Ashley was lost for the season with a foot injury only two minutes into the Cal game.
