Longtime Canyon View Little League coach Mark Stevens may still be a relatively young man at age 52 but he was given an honor unfortunately reserved for those who are too old to personally enjoy it.

The main softball field at Mehl Park was dedicated in his name Saturday morning during opening ceremonies for the league in front of 33 teams and over 400 athletes including the Catalina Foothills softball team.

“I feel very humbled,” said Stevens. “It’s an honor and it came from a lot of work. We spent a lot of years at this place working with the kids and the fields. A lot of gratitude has to go to the Board and the parents.”

Besides his work with Canyon View, Stevens is also beginning his second year as the head softball coach at Catalina Foothills. “The best thing about this is I still get to coach a lot of these girls.” he added.

A majority of the Falcons softball team grew up playing in the Canyon View Little League.
