Weber State coach Randy Rahe on Nick Johnson: “He’s a handful. He’s going to be playing against Damian (Lillard in the NBA) next year. That’s how good he is.”

OK, maybe this was staged but you have to love the fun of intercollegiate athletics.

But what if they meet again in the NCAA tournament for the national title? Wouldn’t that be something.

Weber State, as a No. 14 seed, upset No. 3 North Carolina way back in 1999, so of course, they believe.

More about team effort than personal accolades with these No. 1 seeds, although we’ll see how the first-round selections pan out come June.

Lillard celebrated Weber State’s Big Sky tournament title with leading scorer Davion Berry last week.

Don’t be surprised if three Arizona players leave to the NBA before their eligibility expires. It’s the way of the world these days. It makes the upcoming NCAA tournament even more precious as their college careers come closer to a potential end.
