Arizona’s Nick Wilson appears to be healthy as the Wildcats reach the stretch run

Nick Wilson’s name did not show up on Arizona’s injury report this week, so the freshman could be at full strength to chase some history against Colorado’s defense today.

Wilson, hampered by an ankle injury in the last month, is 96 yards shy of Nic Grigsby’s freshman rushing record of 704 yards at Arizona in 2007. Grigsby’s younger brother, senior Terris Jones-Grigsby, will also try to re-ignite Arizona’s running game against the Buffaloes.

Personal records are one thing; team objectives are much more important. Arizona’s running game has lacked punch in recent games. The Wildcats have only 304 yards rushing in the last three games after producing 208 in the upset win over then-No. 2 Oregon at Eugene on Oct. 2.

In the losses to USC and UCLA, Arizona rushed for only a combined 157 yards on 60 carries. That’s less than what Wilson rushed for at Texas-San Antonio on Sept. 4 when he gained a season-high 174 yards.

Part of the problem has been injuries to Wilson and Jones-Grigsby since the Oregon game. Both appear to be healthy heading into tonight’s homecoming game.

“(Wilson’s) been staying in the training room, trying to get his ankle back to one hundred percent,” Jones-Grigsby was quoted as saying this week by AZDesertSwarm.com. “But both of us are just trying to get back to our roots like I said. But Nick’s going to bounce back. We both have to basically with four games left.”

Solomon continues to lead all freshmen in the nation with 2,605 yards passing, topping Miami’s Brad Kaaya (2,087) by more than 500 yards. With 395 more yards, he will become the fifth Arizona quarterback to reach 3,000 yards in a season, joining Nick Foles, Willie Tuitama, Matt Scott and Jason Johnson.

He is currently No. 7 on the season record list at Arizona. Here are the Top 7 totals:
