The greatest irony of this year’s Arizona Wildcats hoops team is that their three inexplicable losses have come on the road against UNLV, Oregon State and ASU. Other than those setbacks, Arizona has proven to be very impressive away from McKale Center.
After last night’s 82-54 win at Colorado, the Wildcats rank fourth nationally in average scoring margin in road games at 11.4 points behind Kentucky (16.6), Virginia (13.9) and Wisconsin (11.8). Only seven Division I teams average double-digit scoring margins on the road and Arizona is one of them.
Last year’s team, perceived to be more dominant with an eight-week run at No. 1, had an average scoring margin on the road of almost four points lower at 7.8.

Keep in mind also that Oregon State, ASU and UNLV have an impressive combined home record of 39-7. Furthermore, Arizona (24-3) is only one game off of the pace of last year’s team that finished 33-5.
In hostile environments this season, Gabe York is among the most productive of the Wildcats.
Including last night’s 14-point performance, York has more impressive numbers across the board compared to his games in true road games compared with his games at McKale Center and on the neutral court during the Maui Invitational.
York’s numbers in the 10 true road games: 29-of-64 (45.3 percent) field goal attempts, 19-of-46 (41.3 percent) three-point attempts and 100 points (10 points a game).
.@iPass4Zona went over 300 steals for his college career last night. He's had at least 60 in each of his four seasons as a college player.

His numbers in the 17 home and neutral games: 45-of-112 (40.2 percent) field goal attempts, 23-of-69 (33.3 percent) three-point attempts and 143 points (8.4 points a game).
“I’m really excited about Gabe York’s play,” Arizona coach Sean Miller told KCUB (1290-AM) announcer Brian Jeffries after last night’s game. “We’ve never seen him more confident.”
Miller was particularly impressed with York’s five defensive rebounds against the Buffaloes. It shows how aggressive York has become. He averages 2.1 boards a game overall.
Strength will meet strength tomorrow as Utah has been very dominant at home. The Utes, 16-0 at home, have an average winning margin of 25.4 points at the Huntsman Center. That ties Ohio State for third nationally behind Gonzaga (26.5) and Kentucky (25.5).
