On boxing workouts: “It’s a different conditioning when you are boxing. It is non-stop just like in football. But I think a lot of things come into play when you try to consider hand-to-eye coordination and being able to determine someone’s swing before you know you get either a left or right. There’s a lot of things that come into context when you’re doing boxing and then once you convert it to football it’s like second nature.”
On the 11 goals he wrote on his bedroom wall: “The goals I put on my wall were goals I always had in mind. I think it was about time that I wrote them down. I planned to write them down my senior year. The first one is try to lead the guys you know as far as I can lead them and the rest were kind of individual goals that will help the team overall.”
On being a two-way player in high school and if he can do that at Arizona: “Coach Rod (Rich Rodriguez) and I haven’t talked about it but a couple of times in practice we will switch, so the offense will go to defense and the defense will go to offense, so I get a chance to show them that I can move as well on the offensive side of the ball. I mean, it’s easier on the offensive side of the ball. You don’t have to chase the guy all around the field and try to anticipate his moves some. You can just do what you got to do. I mean, it’s a pretty fun thing to play offense but I am a defensive player. I like to protect things. That’s how I work.”
