Projected starter: Josh Kern, 6-5, 230, RS-Jr. Career starts: 2.

Projected backup: Trevor Wood, 6-5, 251, Soph. Career starts: 0.

Starter in 2014: Kern one game against Washington State. All other games, a slot receiver was used.

Synopsis: Arizona plans to use tight ends more as receivers and important blockers on Anu Solomon’s quick reads with Kern and Wood gaining experience last season and the addition of two capable incoming players — Matt Morin and Darrell Cloy. … Kern has played in 17 games over the last two years as a tight end. Wood was one of the standouts of the spring game. Both should see substantial playing time. … Morin is a former San Diego State quarterback who was one of the top players on a 10-2 Riverside (Calif.) Community College team last year. … Cloy, a true freshman, is a likely redshirt candidate with tremendous size at 6’2″ and 255.
