A’jha Edwards (6-foot-5) earned first-team NJCAA All-American status while at Pima under head coach Todd Holthaus. After Pima, Edwards played for Montana State-Northern where she earned multiple NAIA National Division I Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors.
Edwards went on to be named NAIA All-American as well as a first team WBCA All-American after he senior year.
She set single season records at Northern for rebounds in a season (467), rebounds per game (13.75), and rebounds in a game (28). The 28 rebounds in a game is an NAIA national tournament record.
Edwards’ MSU-Northern jersey was one of approximately 100 selected from top players throughout the nation to be displayed in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Ring of Honor.
Edwards signed a contract to play professional basketball in Puerto Rico and will join the Cangrejeras de Santurce team in the BSNF Basketball league (also known as the Women’s National Superior Basketball).
“This is a great opportunity for A’jha,” Northern head coach Chris Mouat said. “She has a good contract in a very good place to play. I have no doubt that she will have a ton of success professionally.”
Holthaus also had great things to say about Edwards, “What a cool opportunity for A’jha to be able to see the world by playing basketball,” Holthaus said.
“With her journey starting at Pima, I couldn’t be prouder. She got her educational foundation at Pima and that’s a great reflection on what we do at Pima Community College as a whole. As her coach, I’m proud to say she put in the necessary work to develop her skills. Very good day to be an AZTEC.”
