One thing is certain: The personal losing streaks of either Dane Cruikshank or Ben Cane will come to an end tomorrow night.
Cruikshank, an Arizona cornerback, and Cane, a UTSA defensive end, were teammates last season at Citrus (Calif.) Junior College. The Owls did not win a game, finishing 0-10.
Neither player is listed on their respective team’s depth chart, but they may play against each other in special teams situations.
Cruikshank was a two-year starter for Citrus, spending the 2013 season on the offensive side of the ball, when the Owls needed an emergency receiver. As a freshman, Cruikshank caught four passes for 147 yards and a touchdown, while also averaging 20.6 yards per kick return.
In 2014, Cruikshank moved back to his natural position as a cornerback and thrived for the Owls, earning second-team all-conference honors. He recorded 45 total tackles, a tackle for a loss, one pick, and four pass break-ups. Cruikshank also had offers from Utah, Utah State, BYU, and Iowa State.
Kane was also a two-year starter at Citrus with 88 tackles and 4.5 sacks in his career.
“I came out of high school with no offers at all,” Kane said in a story published at Citrus’ Web site when he signed with UTSA in February. “Citrus has definitely helped me get to this point in my life,” Kane said.
