IF NEVADA’S WEARING WHITE WHAT’LL ARIZONA WEAR?
Nevada announced a white-out for tomorrow’s game against Arizona meaning the Wildcats will not wear its traditional white on a road game for the first time since they wore red jerseys at LSU in 2006 (thanks to Scott Terrell of WildcatUniverse.com for the information on his fantastic uniform database).
LSU, which routed Arizona 41-7 in that game, traditionally wears white uniforms at home.
The NCAA once mandated for 25 years that road teams wear white uniforms. When USC and UCLA agreed to both wear their colored jerseys in 2009, the rule changed the following year to allow the conferences to decide after the teams ask for permission that the home team wear white.
The Wildcats had a white-out of their own last year in the memorable win over Cal in the “Hill Mary” game-winning touchdown pass from Anu Solomon to Austin Hill.
Arizona also wore white at home in the historic 1982 upset of ASU in which the Wildcats knocked the Sun Devils out of the Rose Bowl. The Wildcats showed up to pregame warmups wearing their blue jerseys, only to find ASU on the field wearing their maroon tops.
ASU claimed it was a miscommunication error. Arizona changed into its white tops after the warmups.
After the first play of the game, the Sun Devils were charged a timeout for the uniform snafu.
