The big news this week was Allen, top junior college defensive end, receiving a scholarship offer and visit request from Alabama. Interest in Allen builds, including from Pac-12 foes Oregon and USC, despite the big, athletic end redshirting this season so he can have three years of eligibility at the Division I level.
“I was blown away,” Allen said of the communication from Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. “I talked to my mom and she’s encouraging me to take the visit. I never thought I would have the opportunity to see a school like Alabama so I would love to go and check them out and see how I like it.”
Allen reiterated, however, his loyalty to Arizona and assistant coach Tony Dews.
“Arizona was one of the first schools to offer me and believed in me before anyone else,” Allen told Scout.com. “I definitely feel a sense of loyalty to them because of that and I’m looking forward to getting out there for an official visit. I’ve been twice but the official visit will be good. I’ll probably go out there with London Iakopo when they (Long Beach City College) have their bye (Oct. 24) and that should be fun.”
In last night’s 17-13 victory over Palomar, Iakopo recorded two tackles, one for lost yardage.
