State Golf Championships

Salpointe standout Haylin Harris bogeyed the ninth hole but came even on the 17th to stay at even par at the Division I state championships held in Laveen. Harris is currently in fourth place, five strokes back.

As a team, the Lancers are in third place while Ironwood Ridge is in ninth.

Amphitheater senior Jessica Williams is leading the D-II state championship held at the Del Urich Golf Course in Tucson.

Williams in 1-over after the first round, one stroke ahead of Kathryn Ottman of Sahuaro.

Williams went 2-under after she hit a hole-in-one on the second hole but she eventually fell behind at 2-over after the 12th hole. She found her stroke again and birdied the 13th and 14th hole to draw even but a bogey on the 18th dropped her to her current position.

As expected, Sahuaro is leading the pack by 21 strokes (+43 323).

On the boy’s side, Salpointe standout Trevor Werbylo shot a 5-under 67 to open up a one-stroke lead at the D-II state championships held at the Randolph Golf Course.

Werbylo was 6-under after the 14th, paced by three straight birdies on the front nine.

Salpointe has a slim eight-stroke lead as a team (+6 294) heading into the final day.

The D-I boy’s tournament starts on Wednesday at the Aguila Golf Course in Laveen.
