This is what was written in this space last week:

“Earning eight stickers against the Utes might be enough. Anything less and it could be a long night.”

The Wildcats earned that many and the evening was a success after a grueling, yet exhilarating, double-overtime win against No. 10 Utah.

All three phases — special teams, offense and defense – contributed to the Cats’ 37-30 double-overtime victory.

The offense had 12 plays of at least 12 yards and the offensive line did not yield a sack of Anu Solomon.

The defense contributed with four sacks, constantly putting pressure on Utah quarterback Travis Wilson.

And the special teams — with punter Drew Riggleman and placekicker Casey Skowron — outperformed Utah’s much-publicized duo of punter Tom Hackett and placekicker Andy Phillips.

Riggleman twice pinned Utah inside its 10 yard-line in the third quarter. Skowron was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week for his 3-of-3 performance, including a 47-yarder.

Rich Rodriguez is banking on the performance of the Wildcats in general as a momentum builder heading into Tempe on Saturday. Another performance of at least eight stickers should bring good results against the Sun Devils.

In Arizona’s five losses, it has amassed only 18 stickers. In its six victories, the total is 51.
