Ironwood Ridge standout catcher Adam Mays signed with Wittenberg University (Ohio) Monday night. Mays will become the third generation from his family to attend Wittenberg.
“It’s pretty exciting, They were the first college to contact me and everything worked out perfectly,” Mays said.
“My grandfather went there, both my parents and two of my aunts. This is where I wanted to be,” he added.
Adam’s father, Brian, played football at Wittenberg so the tradition of being a Tiger will be even stronger.
“We are thrilled about Adam’s commitment to play baseball at Wittenberg. It’s a highly ranked college with great facilities and athletics tradition,” his mother Christy said. “It’s a great fit for him academically, athletically and personally. Coach (Jay) Lewis did a fantastic job in recruiting as well. Tiger Up!!”
Former Ironwood Ridge outfielder Matt Baker is also on the roster.
Mays batted .298 with four doubles and a home run for the Nighthawks last year. He also had a perfect fielding percentage.
