— The mother of freshman center Chance ComancheMelissa McGee — was a standout basketball player on Long Beach State’s women’s basketball team in the early 1990’s. McGee, known by her maiden name of Gower while with the 49ers, played from 1991-95. She joined Long Beach State’s program the season after coach Joan Bonvicini left for Arizona. McGee played for Glenn McDonald at Long Beach State. McDonald played for Lute Olson there when Olson coached the 49ers in 1973-74. McGee scored 1,397 points in her career and averaged 8.3 rebounds. McGee did her part in trying to help Sean Miller land the nation’s No. 1-rated recruit Josh Jackson last Saturday when Jackson visited during the UNLV game. She delivered this tweet after the game:

Ryan Anderson is averaging 15.9 points and 9.9 rebounds a game. Makes you appreciate the double-double Jordan Hill averaged in 2008-09 (18.3 points and 11.0 rebounds). Ernie McCray averaged a phenomenal 23.9 points and 12.2 rebounds in 1959-60. Both of those marks rank in the top three in Arizona history in a season.

— Reserve point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright seems to be in a season-long funk shooting only 35.1 percent from the field, 20.8 percent from three-point range. But what must be encouraging to Miller is that Jackson-Cartwright has 41 assists with only 16 turnovers. He has only 16 more field goal attempts than assists, which shows maturity and a team-first mentality. He may be struggling but he’s maintaining a sense of purpose.

— Former Hutchinson (Kansas) Junior College teammates Kadeem Allen and A.J. Spencer will be on the same floor tonight. They shared the backcourt with Hutchinson in 2012-13 when Allen (a freshman) averaged 17.4 points and 4 assists per game. Spencer, a sophomore that season, averaged 15 points and 5.9 rebounds. Allen and Spencer did not play last year. Allen redshirted after transferring from Hutchinson and Spencer sat out the season with a knee injury.

— Former USC player Roschon Prince gets his first opportunity to play against the Wildcats after sitting on the bench while the Trojans lost 73-53 in Los Angeles two seasons ago. Arizona achieved its best start in school history (17-0) with that victory. Prince, a 6’6″ and 235-pound forward, has faced Anderson before when Prince was with USC and Anderson with Boston College. Prince had a career-high 14 points in only 19 minutes in a 78-62 win over the Eagles. Anderson led Boston College with 13 points at USC’s Galen Center.

— Anderson also has a history facing former Maryland guard Nick Faust when both were in the ACC. Both transferred after the 2013-14 season and sat out last year. Faust will be one of the best point guards Allen and Jackson-Cartwright play this season. Anderson and Faust were part of the All-ACC Freshman team in 2011-12. Faust started 66 games for the Terrapins in his three seasons there and averaged 9.4 points per game in each of the last two seasons. He scored 18 points off of the bench to set a season-high as a sophpmore in 2012-13 against Anderson and Boston College.
