No. 8 Gilbert Christian held on for a 51-48 win at No. 7 Catalina Foothills in a rare Division II battle played on a Saturday night. Senior standout Mitch Lightfoot led all scorers with 29 points.
The Knights took a 12-6 lead with 3:32 left in the first quarter and increased it to 24-6 after the Falcons failed to score for almost nine minutes. Catalina Foothills responded by going on a 12-2 run over the last 2:45 of the second quarter to cut the lead down to 26-18.
Spencer Lewis sparked the run thanks to a 3-pointer and a couple of buckets along with a 3-pointer from Jared Irwin to close out the half….
