Three newcomers to the program — Chris Mills (Kentucky transfer) and freshmen Khalid Reeves and Deron Johnson — had an impact on No. 3-ranked Arizona’s 1990-91 season opener. Mills led the Wildcats with 17 points, Reeves led in assists (nine) and Johnson, a Sunnyside grad, had a team-high seven rebounds to go with 16 points. The game, which featured 33 assists by Arizona, was a first-round matchup in the Preseason NIT.

Chris Mills led Arizona with 17 points in his first game with the Wildcats in 1990, a season-opening 122-80 win over Austin Peay, increasing the Wildcats’ McKale Center winning streak to 48 games.

Sean Rooks’ 17 second-half points fueled Arizona’s 88-79 win over East Tennessee State to increase its McKale Center winning streak to 49 games on Nov. 16, 1990.

Khalid Reeves’ first game with Arizona did not include a lot of scoring (seven points) but he had a team-high nine assists in the 1990-91 season-opening 122-80 win over Austin Peay, increasing the McKale Center win streak to 48 games.

The Buccaneers made 12 of 26 three-point shots, but the third-ranked Wildcats, led by Sean Rooks’ 17 second-half points, took control late in the game. Arizona took the lead for good at 66-65 with 8:46 remaining when the 6-foot-11 Rooks, who finished with 21 points, made a short jumper. The Wildcats built their lead to 83-72 on a dunk by Brian Williams with 1:34 remaining, and took a 87-74 lead in the final minute on two free throws by Mills. Williams finished with 19 points and 17 rebounds.
