Notes from Arizona’s 79-64 victory over Washington State tonight in Pullman, Wash.:

— The Wildcats improved to 6-4 in the Pac-12, including 3-3 on the road (beating ASU, Stanford and the Cougars). The win helps make up for last week’s home loss to Oregon but the Wildcats must win at least two more road games against Washington, Colorado and Utah to finish 5-4 away from McKale Center in addition to run the table at home. If that happens, Arizona finishes 13-5 with a chance to catch Oregon, which is 7-2. …

Ryan Anderson scored a career-high 31 points with 12 rebounds, his 11th double-double of the season and 31st of his career. Anderson is the first Arizona player to break the 30-point mark since Derrick Williams had 32 against Duke in the 2011 Sweet 16. That’s fitting inasmuch as Sean Miller said during the IMG Radio Network postgame show that Anderson’s performance reminded him of Williams. … Anderson attempted 17 free throws and made 11. The attempts are also a career-high, topping the 16 he tried against Wake Forest on March 1, 2014, while with Boston College. He made 14 free throws in that game. …

— While Anderson carried the Wildcats inside against the presence of Washington State’s Josh Hawkinson (14 points and 17 rebounds), the play of point guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright, in his first career start, set the tone for the Wildcats. Jackson-Cartwright, playing a career-high 35 minutes, contributed seven points with four assists and no turnovers. He did not adversely affect Arizona’s flow with Kadeem Allen sitting at the start with flu-like symptoms. Jackson-Cartwright’s jump shot off the dribble with 11:13 left in the first half awoke the Wildcats, who made only three of their first 15 field goal attempts at that point. Starting with that shot, Arizona made 12 of its last 19 shots in the half to take a 39-30 lead into intermission. …

— Cartwright’s previous career-high in minutes was 27 two times, the last occurring against Washington State three weeks ago. …

— Arizona needs a catalyst and that usually comes at the point guard position. Jackson-Cartwright can fill that role with Allen supplementing Arizona’s three-guard lineup rotating with Gabe York and Allonzo Trier. Just a thought. …

— Arizona has defeated Washington State 10 straight times, including five consecutive times in Pullman. The Wildcats have double-digit win streaks against Pac-12 opponents Utah (12 games), Stanford (12) and Washington State (10). …

— Miller also lauded his team’s defense that limited Washington State to 34.9 percent shooting from the field. The Cougars entered the game shooting 47.9 percent. Their starting backcourt of Que Johnson and Charles Callison made only five of their 25 field goal attempts. …

Mark Tollefsen (12 points and 10 rebounds) notched his first double-double with Arizona after recording four with San Francisco. He played a team-high 36 minutes, his most with the Wildcats. Tollefsen, Anderson and Kaleb Tarczewski (10 rebounds) all finished with double-digit rebounds for Arizona. They combined for 32 rebounds. Washington State finished with 40 as a team. …

Gabe York made two three-pointers to move into a tie for fourth on Arizona’s career list with 193. He is tied with Jason Terry and Kyle Fogg. He passed Matt Othick, who is now at No. 7 with 191. …

— Arizona cured some of what hurt the Wildcats last week against Oregon — points in the paint and turnovers. The Wildcats outscored the Cougars in points in the paint 36-22 and committed only nine turnovers thanks mostly to Jackson-Cartwright’s steady play. …
