Flowing Wells standout Christine Ortega signed with Pima at a ceremony held in her school gym.

“I’m blessed to have the opportunity to become an Aztec on and off the court,” Ortega wrote on her Twitter feed.

According to her father David Ortega, Christine benefited from the Pima staff watching other players such as Shalise Fernander but she tore her ACL right before her senior year. He is understandably excited about her future with Pima.

“They are well aware of her capabilities and potential and have seen her excellent progress since her knee surgery on December 21,” her father said. “Thankfully they have seen enough and offered her a full scholarship for this upcoming year.”

Desert Christian held a ceremony Friday morning. The school recognized four athletes:

“What an amazing blessing it is to see all of Nick’s hard work and his dream of playing collegiate soccer become reality,” his mother Lori Tucker said. “We couldn’t be more proud of him!”
