It started out as a pitching duel between Mia Trejo (11-6) and Brianna Aguilar-Beaucage (17-5) but the Division II elimination game held at Amphitheater on Wednesday night turned into a scoring fest with the Lancers coming out on top 13-7.
“Well, it certainly feels good but it was very ugly,” Aguilar-Beaucage said. “Tucson is a great program and Mia is a great pitcher and hitter. She can work both sides and she does it well. We knew we had to hit to win this and my teammates picked me up.”
The loss ended one of the best seasons Tucson (23-10) has had since John Nitka led the Badgers to back-to-back runner-up finishes in 1989 and 1990. The fifth place finish for the Badgers in arguably one of the best divisions in the country may be of little comfort to the Tucson faithful today but, in time, they will look back and realize how special this season was…..
