Continental Ranch (1-0) defeated Sabino Canyon 16-5 Monday at Curtis Park to advance to the final of the Intermediate Winner’s Bracket to be played Tuesday night against Frontier (1-0). Sabino Canyon (1-1) is still alive and will face Western (1-1) in the Elimination Bracket on Tuesday.
Continental Ranch and Sabino Canyon combined for eight home runs but Continental Ranch connected on six of those with Dawson McHughes and Caden O’Daniels hitting two each.
McHughes gave Continental Ranch a 2-0 lead on his first home run of the game but Beau Chaney hit a 3-run shot in the top of the second inning to give Sabino Canyon a 3-2 lead. The lead would not last long and Continental Ranch scored seven in the bottom half of the inning to take a 10-3 lead.
O’Daniels hit a 3-run homer to pace the scoring and Carson Miller followed that with a solo shot. Sabino Canyon scored a run in the bottom of the third and six more in the bottom of the fourth to take a 16-3 lead. Jaden Beck added a grand slam in the sixth.
Sabino Canyon scored two in the top of the fifth thanks to a 2-run blast from Zach Albright.
Marcus Sanders went 3-3 to lead Sabino Canyon while Keith Sanderson and Thomas Bynum hit doubles. Sanders, Chaney, Bynum, Sanderson, Albright and Logan Radomsky all saw pitching action.
For Continental Ranch, O’Daniels, Isaiah Roebuck and Gabe Ridenhour-Hall took the mound. Beck went 3-4 with the grand slam, McHughes went 3-3 with two home runs and four RBI, O’Daniels went 3-4 with two homers and four RBI and Miller went 2-3 with a home run. Massimo Ahumada also had a hit in the game.
