Tucson Alumni Classic
Aug. 5-7: Sporting Chance Center
The 2016 Tucson Alumni Classic is set for Friday, Aug. 5 to Sunday Aug. 7 at the Sporting Chance Center. Doors will open at 6 p.m. on Friday with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
The tournament hopes to renew high school basketball rivalries between 12 local high school teams competing for “new bragging rights,” according to information sent out by former University of Arizona women’s basketball standout Apryl Garnett-Neal (1989-93).
Garnett-Neal and her husband, former ASU standout Lester Neal, held a very successful tournament for Phoenix-area teams three weeks ago with North defeating South Mountain, 64-60.
Carl Hayden, Tempe, McClintock, Trevor Browne, Maryvale, Dobson, Mesa, Desert Vista, Mountain Pointe, Marana Mountain View, Red Mountain and Camelback were the other Phoenix teams taking part.
The Tucson schedule for Friday, Aug. 5 is set:
Tucson vs Sunnyside
Palo Verde vs Santa Rita
Canyon del Oro vs Nogales
Rincon vs Sahuaro
Pueblo vs Cholla
Cienega vs Sabino
Individual tickets are $7 at the door and $5 with a canned good. Current students with a school ID are $5 and children under 10 years old are free. All canned goods will be donated to the Community Food Bank.
