Cameron Miller, Sean Miller’s son who is a senior at Salpointe Catholic, received his first Division I scholarship offer Thursday night from Youngstown State.
Cameron figures to be one of the top point guards in the state this season leading a Lancer team that includes promising sophomore forward Majok Deng, who already holds scholarship offers from a few Division I schools. Cameron led the AZ Power Tucson Red 17U team to a 35-6 record during the AAU season this summer showing intensity on both sides of the ball.
“It’s been a pleasure coaching Cameron,” AZ Power Tucson coach Dave Thomas told me in July. “Cameron is just a competitor. He’s an all-out competitor. He’s mean. He’s tough. He and I kind of see eye to eye. When you see eye to eye with your point guard, it translates to good things on to the court.”
Cameron is coming off a season last year for Salpointe in which he averaged 12.8 points and 4.4 assists per game. He shot 46 percent from the field, making 112 of his 241 attempts.
Expect Cameron to get additional offers as the season progresses. The spring signing period runs from April 12 through May 17.
