Four Pima Community College men’s soccer team players were named to the All-ACCAC/All-Region I teams.
Sophomores Hector Banegas (Rincon HS), Kyle VanAlstine (Cienega HS), Rogelio Canez (Nogales HS) and Taylor Anderson (Salpointe Catholic HS) represented the Aztecs.
Banegas was named first team All-ACCAC/Region I as he led the Aztecs with 16 goals scored and seven assists in 19 games played. He made 17 starts at forward and had 39 points.
VanAlstine was selected second team All-ACCAC/Region I as he played and started in all 20 games.
VanAlstine led the defense in orchestrating nine shutouts. He also scored one goal and had five assists.
Canez, a defender, was named All-ACCAC/All-Region I Honorable Mention. He helped protect the backfield as the Aztecs surrendered 21 goals to the opposition. He played in all 20 games; making 19 starts.
Anderson, a goalkeeper, was also selected All-ACCAC/All-Region I Honorable Mention. He started and played in 18 games behind the net for the Aztecs. He had 49 saves and a percentage of .721.
The Aztecs earned the No. 2 seed for the Region I, Division I tournament and will have a bye to the semifinal round on Thursday. They will host the winner of today’s quarterfinal match between No. 3 Arizona Western College/No. 6 Mesa Community College. The semifinal game will be at Kino North Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
