VOLLEYBALL: St. David advances to semifinals; Saturday’s schedule

St. David was the only “small school” to make it to Saturday after a full day of first round and quarterfinal action for the 3A, 2A and 1A programs on Friday in the Phoenix area. No. 7 The Gregory School beat No. 10 Duncan 3-0 in the 1A playoffs but fell to No. 2 Mogollon in the quarterfinal round later in the day. The loss ended a great year for the Hawks.

No. 16 Desert Christian fell to No. 1 Horizon Honors in 2A action and No. 10 Tanque Verde lost to No. 7 Tuba City (3-2) in the 3A bracket. Like The Gregory School, Tanque Verde had one of the best seasons in school history. No. 11 Sabino made it to the 3A quarterfinal round where No. 3 Fountain Hills won 3-0. The Sabercats only won four games last year. Exceptional results this year.
