Three All-Star teams from the Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation (TYFSF) will be heading to Florida this Friday to take part in the American Youth Football National Championships. The first games are scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4 at the Austin-Tindal Park in Kissimmee, just outside of Orlando.
Giovanni Ciaccio is slated to be the starting quarterback for the 14U Tucson All-Stars. The cousin of former Catalina Foothills standout Tommy Ciaccio, Giovanni is a local 8th grader who has chosen to follow in his cousin’s footsteps and play for Jeff Scurran next year.
“I like the style of play at Catalina Foothills and there is lots of good coaching there,” Ciaccio explained.
His 13U Tucson Wildcats squad went 11-0 this past year to win the City Championship and he is one of seven Wildcats named to the 14U All-Star team. The All-Stars have been practicing for a couple of weeks in preparation for the trip to Florida.
“We took third place last year but this team seems to be more athletic and we are a lot bigger,” Ciaccio added.
The team is expected to run a spread offense to take advantage of the athleticism.
