A report this morning by Nebraska’s Rivals affiliate that Arizona cornerbacks coach Donte’ Williams — a top recruiter on the West coast — is close to filling an opening with Mike Riley’s staff is causing a stir in Lincoln, Neb., and Tucson.
The report written by Nate Clouse includes information that “an agreement could already be in place.”
Clouse was a guest today on Studio.Omaha.com and he commented about one standout Arizona commit who is also being targeted by Nebraska.
That is cornerback/wide receiver/running back Greg Johnson, a 4-star recruit as rated by 247Sports.com, of Los Angeles Hawkins High School.
Johnson committed to Arizona and Williams in March. Nebraska has continued to recruit him despite the commitment, although Johnson reportedly re-opened himself to recruiters midway through the Wildcats’ season.
“To be honest with you, there’s about 10 other recruits, big-time guys in the Los Angeles area, that Donte’ Williams is the lead man on that you could see him really help Nebraska out with,” Clouse said. “I actually just got a couple of text messages from a couple of high school coaches in the Los Angeles area who said that if this happens this is big news for Nebraska.”
Clouse said an announcement of Williams’ hire by Riley should happen today or by Monday.
Other Los Angeles-area commits for Arizona recruited by Williams include safeties Rhedi Short, Xavier Bell and Scott Young, wide receivers Brian Casteel and Warren Jackson, linebacker Joshua Brown and running back Nathan Tilford.
Brown, who recently had an in-home visit by Williams, tweeted this earlier today:

Brown plays at Long Beach Poly, which is coached by former Arizona linebacker Antonio Pierce.
It should be noted that Williams was not the primary recruiter for Tilford and Jackson. The primary recruiter for Jackson was receivers coach Tony Dews and for Tilford it was offensive coordinator Calvin Magee.
Arizona’s recruiting class, with 26 known commitments, is rated No. 14 nationally by Rivals, No. 20 by 247Sports and No. 17 by Scout.
