Arizona Wildcats baseball is ranked No. 7 in Collegiate Baseball’s Fabulous 40 NCAA Division I pre-season poll that was released Tuesday.
The Wildcats are coming off a College World Series appearance last season, achieved in Jay Johnson’s first season as their head coach.
Arizona has a lofty rating despite not having a player selected as a preseason Collegiate Baseball All-American, which goes three teams deep.
Some of the standouts returning for Arizona include sophomore catcher Cesar Salazar, junior outfielder Jared Oliva, senior infielder Kyle Lewis, junior reliever Robby Medel, senior starting pitcher JC Cloney, junior starter Cameron Ming and junior infielder J.J. Matijevic.
Johnson also has a respectable freshman class that includes Glendale Mountain Ridge shortstop Cameron Cannon and Fresno (Calif.) Clovis North outfielder Matt Fraizer.
The 2017 season starts Feb. 17 with a four-game series with Eastern Kentucky at Hi Corbett Field.
