Former Ironwood Ridge standout excited to be in Tucson with Air Force for NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl

The NOVA Home Loans Arizona Bowl has activities planned in Tucson for Air Force and South Alabama in the week leading up to next Friday’s game, such as a trip to Old Tucson.

Tyler Williams has his own agenda for his Air Force teammates as well. The Tucson native, who starred at Ironwood Ridge as a dual-threat quarterback, told the Colorado Springs Gazette that he wants to serve as Air Force’s tour guide of the city’s finest finest restaurants.

Air Force flies into Tucson on Christmas Day on Sunday. Williams is already in Tucson with family. He will join the Falcons at the team hotel in the afternoon.

Flourishing as a slot receiver/running back, Williams wants to make the most of Air Force’s 9-3 season with a win in the Arizona Bowl.

“At the end of the day you want to go to the best bowl game possible,” Williams told the Gazette. “The way we played this year, we ended up 9-3 and we’re going to Arizona. Those are the cards we were dealt. We’re grateful that we get to play one more game against a good team. We’re going to go out there and do what we do best.”

Williams moved to Tucson from Los Angeles as a child. A fan of the Lakers and USC, he was familiar with the Arizona Wildcats and attended several games at Arizona Stadium.

“It’s definitely a great environment,” Williams said. “I’m excited to be able to play on that field. It’s going to be a good time.”
