Arizona Wildcats great Cecil offers advice for Rodriguez’s recruits in video

Former Arizona Wildcats All-American safety Chuck Cecil, a College Football Hall of Famer, offered a congratulatory message with advice Friday on a video for Rich Rodriguez’s incoming recruits.

“Just want to give a shout out and big congratulations to Coach Rodriguez and (acting athletic director) Erika Barnes and the new Arizona Wildcats student-athletes,” Cecil said at the start of the video. “Hey, just a few pieces of advice … play hard, have fun and get your diploma. Bear down and go Cats.”

Cecil, who starred at Arizona after earning a scholarship as a walk-on, was on the Los Angeles Rams defensive coaching staff of head coach Jeff Fisher, who was fired Dec. 12 (13 games into the season).

He was a two-time Academic All-American in addition to his All-American status on the field as a senior in 1987.

Cecil is most known for his tough style of play, which caused Sports Illustrated to ask in one of its issues that had Cecil on the cover: “Is Chuck Cecil too vicious for the NFL?”
