Embiid guesses McConnell “clutchest player in the history of the NBA” after another game-winner

Former Arizona Wildcats guard T.J. McConnell offered another clutch performance Thursday.

He hit another game-winner for Philadelphia, this time with 5.8 seconds left, making a mid-range shot after penetrating to beat the Magic in Orlando.

The game-winner is a month after McConnell hit a buzzer-beater over Carmelo Anthony to beat the Knicks. After that shot, Sixers teammate Joel Embiid changed his Twitter avatar to a photo that compares McConnell to Michael Jordan.

After this shot that snapped a five-game losing streak, Embiid tweeted that McConnell is “the clutchest player in the history of the NBA” along with the photo in his avatar:

This might be the first and only time that McConnell will be compared to the greatest player in the history of the NBA.

Embiid’s tweet can be understood this way: McConnell is the clutchest player in the history of the NBA of an undrafted point guard who had to practically beg his way into the scouting combine two years ago and whose head coach in college (Sean Miller) was the only one who thought he could play at that level.

A reporter asked McConnell, “How clutch are you?”

“I don’t know I just … this is my second so-called game-winner in how many years of playing basketball?” McConnell said. “So I can’t be that clutch. But I heard Joel had different words to say, so I’ll let him be the judge.”

Here is his game-winning shot tonight with an interview and some fun and frolic from his teammates:
