Pima’s Bree Cates named ACCAC DII Player of the Week

Pima Community College women’s basketball player Bree Cates was selected ACCAC Division II Player of the Week on Monday for her play during the week of Feb. 20-26. She’s a sophomore.

The Aztecs went 1-1 with a victory over Central Arizona College 93-90 and a close loss at Mesa Community College 60-58. Cates averaged 22.5 points, five rebounds and one steal.

Cates has started and played in all 28 games this season. She is averaging 14.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.1 steals per game. She leads the team with a 46.9 field goal percentage and a 37.6 percentage from three-point range.

The Aztecs close out the regular season on Tuesday against Arizona Western College at the West Campus. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.

Cates, along with fellow sophomores, Denesia Smith (Cienega HS), Bailey Johnson (Tucson HS), Katie Bell (Nogales HS), Erin Peterson (Catalina Foothills HS), Moana Hala’ufia (Marana HS) and Sydni Stallworth (Palo Verde HS) will be recognized at halftime.
