Roller coasters take you up, roller coasters take you down. You go for a loop, but you always come back around. There may be no other way to describe the outcome of the 3A semifinal game between No. 11 Sabino and No. 14 Sahuarita played Friday night at Hillenbrand Stadium on the University of Arizona campus.

Sabino (18-8) and Sahuarita (23-11) met for the third time this year with the Mustangs winning in March and the Sabercats drawing even two weeks later en route to a championship in the 3A South Region but none of that matters come playoff time and Sabino won the rubber match Friday night to advance to the semifinal round to be played Saturday morning in Phoenix…..

SABINO/SAHUARITA GAME STORY AT AZPreps365.com

In baseball action, Nogales, Salpointe, Canyon del Oro, Sahuarita, Empire, Bisbee, Willcox, Valley Union and St. David all won on Friday. CDO will play Nogales in the 4A semifinal round next Wednesday which means at least one team from Southern Arizona will play for a 4A championship.

In softball action, Sabino, Empire, Benson and San Manuel advanced. Benson and San Manuel will play each other in a 2A semifinal on Saturday, guaranteeing another championship appearance from Southern Arizona.

In boy’s tennis, Catalina Foothills will play for a Division II championship on Saturday and Tanque Verde and Pusch Ridge will play each other in the D-III final. Tanque Verde beat Pusch Ridge 5-4 in April.

The Pusch Ridge girls will play for the D-III championship also.

The brackets for the 6A and 5A Volleyball tournaments have been released and the first round will take place on Saturday.

The state track and field meets will come to an end on Saturday and we will have full results once all races and events are finished for each division.
