Former Sahuaro standout Alex Verdugo was selected to take part in the Pacific Coast League All-Star game, slated to be played on Wednesday, July 12, at Cheney Stadium in Tacoma.
Verdugo was one of three outfielders elected to the All-Star game. He plays for the Oklahoma City Dodgers.
Verdugo leads the OKC Dodgers with 88 hits and a .342 batting average, both good for fifth in the PCL. Verdugo has a 17-game hitting streak, which is the longest by an Oklahoma City player since 2014 according to Dodgers digital editor Rowan Kavner.
This list was updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who had gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but college and professional awards. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
