Former Arizona Wildcats to run unique Pro Day Basketball Camp in Tucson

Former Arizona Wildcats teammates Joseph Blair and Reggie Geary, along with Lute Olson’s grandson Matt Brase — a former UA player as well who is coaching in the NBA’s G-League, are about to start something unique for hoops players and enthusiasts in Tucson.

The Pro Day Basketball Camp, to be held Aug. 18-20 at Lead Athletics (4750 S. Irving Ave.), features a “true NBA combine experience,” according to the event’s organizers.

Blair, Geary and Brase will be joined by another former Arizona player, Isaiah Fox, who is an assistant coach for the Lakers’ G-League team, and NBA pre-draft analysts and player development specialists Cody Toppert and Nick Friedman.

Brase, Blair, Toppert and Friedman are all a part of Houston’s G-League affiliate Rio Grande Valley. Brase is the head coach who led the Vipers to the title last season of what was the D-League. Blair and Toppert are assistant coaches and Friedman is Rio Grande Valley’s director of player development.

Geary, an eight-year pro including two years in the NBA, has experience coaching in the D-League as well as a head coaching tenure in pro leagues in Japan.

In addition to the NBA scouting combine experience, the camp also includes an evaluation form completed by the panel of experts, giving an assessment and feedback on performance and level of mastery of skills in the areas of mobility, ball handling, shooting, post efficiency and physical attributes.

Registration also includes teaching, instruction, and drills, provided by the professional panel, which will work directly with athletes, within a small coach-to-player ratio.

The camp fee is $300.

Camp Schedule:
Friday, Aug. 18th 1 pm-5 pm
Saturday, Aug. 19th 9 am-12 pm, 2 pm-5 pm
Sunday, Aug. 20th 9 am-12 pm
