Alex Verdugo, who was promoted yesterday to the major leagues for the first time in his career, will start tonight in center field for the Los Angeles Dodgers in their game against the host San Diego Padres.
Verdugo’s mother, Shelly Verdugo, confirmed in a text to me that her son — a 2014 Sahuaro High School graduate — will wear No. 61 in a text
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced earlier today that Verdugo will bat eighth in the lineup, as this tweet shows:

Shelly and Joe Verdugo — Alex’s parents — are in San Diego tonight for the special moment in their son’s career. Many of his friends and extended family from Tucson will also be in attendance.
