Sabino QB Alex Bell is now a two-time Star of the Night honoree following his 418-yard and eight-touchdown performance last night in a 69-27 win over Empire.

Bell had three primary targets who each had at least 100 yards receiving — Larry Gerald (four catches for 196 yards and two TDs), Luke Moran (eight catches for 165 yards and two TDs) and Bennett Nottingham (seven catches for 112 yards and four TDs).

Bell led Sabino to an 8-2 record in the regular season. The playoffs start Friday.

— Marana wins 59-3 FINAL
— Zach Roberts had a 4-yard TD run for the Tigers.
— Marana’s Jesus Valenzuela scored on a 55-yard punt Return for a TD.
— Rincon’s Eric Petronella made a 31-yard field goal for the Rangers’ only score.
— Marana’s Teon Simmons scored on a 99-yard kickoff return for a TD.
— Trenton Bourguet completed two TD passes for the Tigers — a 52-yard completion to Valenzuela and a 6-yard completion to Tariq Jordan.
— Marana’s Rene Valenzuela scored on an 8-yard TD run.
— Jaime Avila made a 36-yard field goal.
— Valenzuela scored again, on a 40-yard TD run.
— Marana backup QB Coben Bourguet, Trenton’s brother, capped the scoring on a 9-yard TD completion to Tyler Badruddoja.

— Sunnyside wins 38-7 FINAL

No. 10 Mountain View (7-3) at No. 3 CIENEGA (10-0)
— Cienega wins 41-14 FINAL
— Cienega captured the 5A Southern Region championship
— Cienega QB Jamarye Joiner completed three TD passes and ran for another to lead the unbeaten Bobcats.
— Joiner’s TD passes: 14 yards to Terrell Huggins and 18 and 31 yards to Rodney Rodgers. He scored on a 51-yard TD run.
— Thomas Webb Jr. scored on a 1-yard TD run for the Bobcats.
— Nathan Amico also had a 3-yard TD for Cienega.
— Mountain View’s scoring included a 13-yard TD run by Josemaria Alcala and 8-yard TD run by Branden Devoy.

No. 16 Sahuaro (4-6) at No. 7 IRONWOOD RIDGE (7-3)
— Ironwood Ridge wins 42-18 FINAL
— Sahuaro QB Jordan Bunting completed two TD passes.
— Ironwood Ridge’s Noah Pallantes scored two special teams touchdowns on kickoff and punt returns.
— His teammate, Nick Brahler, scored three TDs, two via the run and another on a catch and run.

— Buena wins 43-21 FINAL
— Nogales QB Josue Tapia completed 21 of 30 pass attempts for 136 yards.
— The Aztecs were led by Martin Rivera’s 47 yards on nine carries.
— Timothy Jones scored on a 1-yard TD run for the Colts.
— Lawrence Prior added a 55-yard TD run for Buena.
— Kaleb Bryant’s 30-yard TD run gave Buena a 28-7 lead in the fourth quarter.
— Prior increased the lead on a 9-yard run.
— Levi Wahl completed the scoring for Buena on a 5-yard TD run.

No. 22 Poston Butte (6-4) at No. 33 DESERT VIEW (3-7)
— Poston Butte wins 41-34 FINAL
— Larry Tripp scored two rushing TDs (from 1 and 45 yards) in the fourth quarter to help Poston Butte overcome deficits of 18-0 and 24-7. Tripp’s 45-yard run tied the game at 26.
— Tullah Salat had three TD runs (6, 75 and 80 yards) for Desert View. His 8-yard score helped put Desert View up 34-27 with 7 minutes left.
— Poston Butte QB Carter White, who scored on two TD runs, tied the game at 34 with a 1-yard score.
— White completed the comeback win with a 48-yard strike to Tucker Usher in the last minute of the game.

— Flowing Wells wins 67-43 FINAL
— Flowing Wells’ Isaiah Williams-Russell had two kickoff returns for a TD
— Charlie Reyes scored on two TD runs for Flowing Wells (45 and 10 yards).
— Flowing Wells QB Zach Jurado completed a 30-yard TD pass to Xavier Hawkins

No. 39 Amphitheater (2-8) at No. 12 PUEBLO (8-2)
— Pueblo wins 56-8 FINAL
— Pueblo is the Gila Region champs.




No. 3 SALPOINTE (9-1) at No. 23 Canyon del Oro (4-6)
— Salpointe wins 49-21 FINAL
— Salpointe QB Rodrigo Nieto completed 6 of 9 pass attempts for 75 yards and also rushed for 82 yards on three carries, including a 55-yard TD run.
— Lancer RB Mario Padilla scored two TD runs and rushed for 55 yards on eight carries. Padilla also had two catches for 41 yards with a TD reception.

No. 7 CATALINA FOOTHILLS (6-4) at No. 14 Walden Grove (7-3)
— Walden Grove wins 14-13 FINAL
— Catalina Foothills QB Chris Kowalcek completed seven of 14 pass attempts for 180 yards. He also rushed 19 times for 138 yards with two TD runs (23 and three yards).
— Dominic Bynum rushed for 120 yards on 20 carries for Catalina Foothills.
— Catalina Foothills WR Andrew Rhonehouse finished with five receptions for 147 yards.
— Nick Flores and Daniel Monjaras each scored on a 1-yard TD run in the first half for Walden Grove.

— Rio Rico wins 35-22 FINAL

— Pusch Ridge wins 68-6 FINAL
— Pusch Ridge’s Mitch Maas accounted for 30 of the points, four by touchdown and six by point-after kicks. Maas scored on TD runs of 6 and 76 yards and had scoring punt returns of 65 and 50 yards.
— Pusch Ridge QB Christian Fetsis completed two TD passes and scored on TD runs of 44 and 53 yards.
— Tamerat Mcleod also scored on a 70-yard run and Ryan Garcia on a 14-yard run for Pusch Ridge.
— Santa Rita’s lone TD was a 78-yard pass from Jesus Moreno to Jalen Anderson.

— Sabino wins 69-27 FINAL
— Sabino QB Alex Bell completed 18 of 24 pass attempts for 418 yards with eight touchdowns and no interceptions. Backup QB Diego Armijo completed his only pass, another TD for the Sabercats, giving them nine through the air.
— Empire had three running backs eclipse 100 yards rushing — Jalen Smith (164 yards on 12 carries), Wyatt Jeffries (153 yards on 19 carries) and Q Washington (114 yards on nine carries). Empire rushed for 459 yards on 56 carries.
— Isaiah Smotherman led Sabino with 95 yards on nine carries.
— The Sabercats had three receivers with at least 100 yards receiving — Larry Gerald (four catches for 196 yards and two TDs), Luke Moran (eight catches for 165 yards and two TDs) and Bennett Nottingham (seven catches for 112 yards and four TDs).
