No. 9 Ironwood Ridge fought back from a 2-0 deficit to defeat No. 8 Liberty 3-2 Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 5A state playoffs. The Nighthawks will travel to play at No. 1 Chaparral on Thursday night.
No. 14 Cienega and No. 16 Sahuaro fell in straight sets against No. 3 Centennial and No. 1 Chaparral respectively.
No. 3 Salpointe beat No. 14 Prescott 3-0 at home Tuesday night to advance to the quarterfinal round of the 4A playoffs. The Lancers will host No. 6 Seton Catholic on Thursday night.
No. 8 Nogales beat No. 9 Coconino 3-0 and the Apaches will travel to No. 1 Cactus Shadows on Thursday. Cactus Shadows swept No. 16 Palo Verde 3-0 to set up the quarterfinal match against Nogales.
In 3A action, Pusch Ridge and Tanque Verde won play-in matches while Sabino and Empire lost on Tuesday night. The first round for 1A, 2A and 3A is set for Friday, Nov. 3.
