Tucson improved to 15-3 on the year thanks to a 4-0 run through the Tucson Cactus Classic held at Pusch Ridge and Desert Christian. The Bobcats beat Tanque Verde 44-21 in the championship game on Saturday night.

Pita Chavez scored 23 points to lead all scorers. The senior guard was named the Tournament MVP for her efforts. Chavez was also named the MVP of the preseason Scorpion Shootout played at Desert Edge High School.

“We came in this year without a big name on our team which means everyone shares the ball and has a chance to do well,” Chavez said. “I knew I was going to be the leader because I’m the point guard but earning MVP honors is something I wasn’t expecting. This is for my team.”

Kiya Dorroh scored six points to lead Tanque Verde.

Chavez and Dorroh earned All-Tournament status as did Ella Berg (Tanque Verde), Rachel Obedin (Tucson), Ashlyn Bohn (Tucson), Loraya Rocha (Rincon/UHS), Cherish Gotcher (Pusch Ridge), Angel Addleman (Pusch Ridge), Anneleissa Lugay (Notre Dame) and Jada Golding (Coconino).
