No. 2 Salpointe defeated No. 6 Prescott 5-0 Tuesday night to advance to the 4A state championship scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 10. The Lancers will face No. 1 Flagstaff, winners of the other semifinal match over No. 4 Catalina Foothills.

The loss to Flagstaff was only the second loss of the year for Falcons (21-2-3). Salpointe (20-1-1) won the 4A state championship last year under Becky Freeman. In a story we broke in June of 2017, former Lancer and WPSL standout Kelly Pierce took the reins of the program after Freeman resigned to take care of her young family.

Pierce won back-to-back state championship as a defender for the Lancers in 1998 and 1999.

The championship match between Salpointe and Flagstaff (16-2-1) will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Williams Field. The match will be streamed live on the NFHS Network through azpreps365.com.

Semifinal Week continues on Wednesday night with No. 10 Salpointe facing off against No. 3 Cortez in the boy’s match scheduled for 7 p.m. at Williams Field.
