Pima’s Holthaus earns 400th career coaching victory

Pima Community College women’s basketball coach Todd Holthaus earned a milestone 400th career coaching victory Saturday night when the Aztecs routed Scottsdale Community College 97-74 at the West Campus Gymnasium.

Holthaus, who has former Arizona men’s basketball assistant Jim Rosborough on his staff, earned his 240th victory at Pima since the 2007-08 season after coaching Flowing Wells to 160 wins from 1998 to 2005.

Sophomore Christine Ortega had a double-double (17 points and 11 rebounds) and sophomore Alliyah Bryant had nine points off the bench.

“This (400 wins) is just the accumulation of what the great players I’ve had the privilege of coaching have done,” Holthaus is quoted as saying at Pima’s Web site. “I’m just blessed to have them in my life and be at a place like Pima that allows me to do what I love.”

The Aztecs next play Wednesday at Cochise College at 5:30 p.m.
