To no one’s surprise, Arizona’s Deandre Ayton has been named a first-team All-AMERICA by the Associated Press.
He is one of three freshmen to be named to the list, joining Oklahoma’s Trae Young and Marvin Bagley III of Duke.
Ayton was long considered a one-and-done player for Arizona. He officially declared last week but that was just a formality given his head coach Sean Miller said earlier that Ayton was gone after UA’s final home game.
Ayton, a 7-foot-1, 250 pound center/forward averaged 20.3 points, 11.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks. He hit 61 percent of his shots.
The other two players on the first team were Kansas’ Devonte Graham and Villanova’s Jalen Brunson.
