Grand Canyon’s Brianna Aguilar-Beaucage (Salpointe) earned Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Pitcher of the Week honors for April 16-22. This is the third honor of the season and fourth of her career for Aguilar-Beaucage.
Aguilar-Beaucage went 1-0 with a 1.56 ERA in a complete-game extra innings win over Seattle in her only appearance last week for Grand Canyon. She allowed just two runs on six hits over nine innings while striking out three. She held the Redhawks, which entered the week leading the conference with a .316 batting average in WAC play, to a .182 batting average in the victory.
Andie Larkins (Sahuaro) earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors for Seattle for the week of April 9-15. This is the first honor of the season and second of her career for Larkins.
Larkins went 1-0 with a 1.24 ERA over 11.1 innings while holding opponents to a .128 batting average. She allowed just two earned runs on five hits while striking out 11 batters. Larkins pitched 4.1 innings in relief in the 10-inning game, giving up no earned runs and three hits while striking out three. She then threw a complete game for her ninth win of the year, allowing just two hits over seven innings, matching her career high with eight strikeouts.
Former Cienega standout Kayla Green was a WAC Pitcher of the Week nominee for April 9-15. The New Mexico State standout went 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
This list will be updated all year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have gone on to achieve either academic and/or athletic awards at the next level. These are not high school awards but collegiate and professional recognitions. NOT CHAMPIONSHIPS. If you are aware of anything I have missed along the way, please let me know.
We recognized 144 athletes in 2017. We are up to 57 for 2018.
