PLAYOFFS: Salpointe pairs advance to Beach Volleyball quarterfinals

Salpointe beach volleyball pairs Peyton Lewis/Abby Russell and Alanna Duarte/Madison Sundholm advanced to the quarterfinal round of the Division I playoffs held at Mesquite High School. This is the first year for state pairs competition.

Players switch sides every seven points in the first two sets and every five points in the third set, if needed. Teams are allowed one timeout per set and there will be a “Technical Timeout” after the 21st point is reached.

Coaches are not allowed to coach during play. Instruction may only take place during timeouts, court switches and between sets. Spectators should not call out instruction or question calls.

In baseball action, No. 6 Notre Dame beat No. 3 Flowing Wells 11-5 to eliminate the Caballeros from the 5A playoffs taking place at Tempe Diablo Stadium. Notre Dame advances to the semifinal round to be played on Thursday.

Flowing Wells finished 19-10 on the year and champions of the 5A Sonoran Region.
