Tucson left-handed pitcher Mario Bejarano was one of 34 players who moved on to Phase 2 of the 15U National Team Trials on Tuesday at Cary, N.C.

Bejarano, who will be a freshman at Tucson High School this season, survived the first trimming of the roster, which started at 72 players.

The 34 athletes are divided into two teams, the Stars and Stripes, and will play in a two-game series beginning Thursday at Coleman Field at the National Training Complex. The 20 members of the 15U National Team will then be selected Friday.

The 2018 15U National Team will participate in training in Cary from Aug. 4-7 before traveling to David, Panama, for the 2018 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-15 Baseball World Cup.

Bejarano threw two innings early Tuesday. He did not allow a hit in 28 pitches while facing seven batters. He struck out two and forced three ground outs and a pop fly out.
