LITTLE LEAGUE WEST REGION
Southern California beat Sunnyside 9-5 Tuesday afternoon at the Little League Western Regional taking place in San Bernardino. The loss eliminated Sunnyside from the regional and officially closes out the Little League season for Southern Arizona.
Sunnyside gave up three runs in the bottom of the first, four more in the third and two in the fourth to fall behind 9-0. The team from Mission Manor Park mounted a comeback in the top of the fifth thanks to an RBI triple from Luis Soqui and back-to-back ground out RBIs to cut the lead down to 9-3. Diego Pinedo singled in the sixth and Jovanni Toledo followed with a home run to make it 9-5 but the comeback stalled with two runners on.
Emilio Lizarraga came up with a double earlier in the game. Cristóbal Lorta and Toledo saw pitching action for Sunnyside and the duo combined for seven strikeouts.
Chula Vista (2-1) will play in another elimination game on Wednesday night.

AMERICAN LEGION WEST REGION
Firebirds Post 7 is set to face Colorado to open up the American Legion West Region Tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 8. The tournament is taking place in Denver from Aug. 8-12.
