The Arizona men’s basketball team received some bad news over the weekend. The school announced on Tuesday afternoon that sophomore big man Ira Lee has been cited for driving under the influence.
“Arizona sophomore men’s basketball forward Ira Lee was cited and released for driving under the influence on Saturday, August 18,” the UA said in an announcement. “The incident has been referred to the Dean of Students for review under the University’s student code of conduct, and the Athletics Department is reviewing the incident for team consequences. Students also have access to counseling and other support services.”
The citation came less than 48 hours before the university’s first day of classes.
According to records, Lee is facing misdemeanor charges for failing to yield at an intersection, DUI as a minor and extreme DUI for a blood alcohol content of 0.20 or higher.
Lee’s role is expected to be a big one this season given the departures of Dusan Ristic and Deandre Ayton, the NBA’s No. 1 overall pick in June.
Lee averaged 2.4 points and 2.3 rebounds a game last season.
