Arizona Wildcats Rout Long Beach State, Extend Winning Streak to Seven Games

The Arizona Wildcats improved to 8-1 winning their seventh straight game — a 70-43 rout over Long Beach State this afternoon at the Walter Pyramid at Long Beach, Calif.

The nation’s leading scorer, Arizona sophomore guard Aari McDonald, scored 17 points while teammate Sam Thomas had a season-high 16.

Arizona’s defense limited Long Beach State to 33 percent shooting from the field and forced 18 turnovers. Tee Tee Starks led the Wildcats with three steals.

Destiny Graham returned from injury and scored eight points with four rebounds in 20 minutes. Dominique McBryde led everyone with nine rebounds while Cate Reese and Semaj Smith each had six rebounds to help Arizona win the rebounding battle 52-29.

Arizona scored the first 11 points of the game and took a 20-9 lead into the second quarter. The Wildcats extended their lead to 35-22 heading into halftime. Thomas led all scorers in the first half with nine points in only seven minutes.

McDonald scored 12 of the Wildcats’ 20 points in the third quarter. The Wildcats took a 19-point lead into the fourth quarter.

Arizona next hosts UTEP on Monday, Dec. 17. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m.
